Lorena Suárez is a conductor and educator from Quito, Ecuador. She currently serves as Music Director of the Orquesta Ciudad de Quito and as Faculty Member and Director of the Classical Program at the School of Music at Universidad de Las Américas. Her career includes extensive experience leading orchestral, chamber, choral, and operatic ensembles.
She has been a guest conductor with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador, as well as with the symphony orchestras of Loja, Cuenca, Guayaquil, and Riobamba. She has also conducted the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra (Minnesota), the Arizona Symphony Orchestra, the Orquestra Sinfônica do Teatro Nacional Claudio Santoro (Brasília), and the Chilean Chamber Orchestra, among others.
Suárez has served as assistant conductor with prominent institutions including the Berlin Opera Academy, the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra (USA), and the Coro e Orchestra Desiderio da Settignano (Florence, Italy). Last year, she took part in the Women Conductors HUB with the Chamber Orchestra of the Municipal Theater of Santiago, Chile.
Lorena Suárez is nearing the completion of her Doctor of Musical Arts degree with a major in Orchestral Conducting and a minor in Music Theory at the University of Arizona (USA). She earned her Master’s in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Minnesota Duluth (2018). She completed a Bachelor’s degree in Orchestral Conducting at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence, Italy (2015), where she also studied Choral Conducting and Vocal Composition. She previously earned her Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Piano from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (2010) and diplomas in piano and classical guitar from the Jaime Mola Conservatory of Music in Quito.
